I woke up this morning in a sweat, my temples pounding. My sleep and dreams last night were not my friends. As I went about my morning routine I felt a feeling of impending doom. Breathe, everything will be ok.
While this is not an everyday occurrence for me, these days do happen, and without any warning. Am I damaged goods? Some tend to think that vulnerability and emotion are weaknesses, I know I used to. Then I started to realize they are strengths.
Someone who has been through trauma and horrors that they don’t ever want to talk about has a strength few possess. If you come through that journey and can honestly assess yourself and grow, you are a powerful, kind, and amazing being. We have a resilience few can ever hope to achieve. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case for everyone but don’t dismiss the ones who are doing the work and trying every day. If you know someone like this give them a few kind words of encouragement, it goes a long way.
So, hold your head high, breathe deep, and know you are not alone.
We are not damaged goods, we are forged in the fires of life and come out the other side beautiful and courageous.
